Saturday, October 2nd, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Saturday, October 2nd:

An immature PALM WARBLER was found and photographed at the foot of 104th
Street along the dyke in the morning. It was last seen heading towards 112th
Street. Along the foreshore from 104th - 96th Street the following
shorebirds were reported: 4 juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 3 juvenile RED
KNOTS, 6 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and 12 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. In a corn stubble
field between 104th -112th Street along the dyke a flock of 16 LAPLAND
LONGSPURS as well as 1 HORNED LARK and 6 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS.
A flock of 12 CACKLING GEESE and 10 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were in a
corn stubble field near 96th Street but visible along the Boundary Bay Dyke.

The following birds were reported from the Reifel Refuge:
1 BROWN PELICAN (also seen Oct 1st), 10(!)MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES,
6 SANDHILL CRANES, 1 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR,
1 SNOW BUNTING and 1 REDHEAD.

At Blackie Spit in White Rock a LONG-BILLED CURLEW and 4 LAPLAND LONGSPURS
were reported.

On the monthly Maplewood Conservation Area Bird Survey the following species
were reported:
1 BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, 1 WESTERN TANAGER, 1 BARRED OWL, 1 WESTERN
MEADOWLARK and 5 BAND-TAILED PIGEONS.

Sightings for Friday, October 1st:

At the foot of 104th Street on the evening hightide the following
species of shorebird were reported: 1 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, 1
MARBLED GODWIT, 8 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 1 PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER, 8
RED KNOTS, 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and 1 YELLOW WARBLER.

At the Highway 17 "Scrape Pond" were 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

In South Surrey a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was reported.

Sightings for Thursday, September 30:

At Boundary Bay between 104th and 96th streets were 2 SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPERS, 3 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 1 MARBLED GODWIT, 4 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS and 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS.
