Hello All,

Just a note of correction. After reviewing our photos of this unexpected scoter at Hood Park we have determined that this bird is not a FEMALE Black Scoter as first thought, but rather a first winter White-winged Scoter in very retarded first spring plumage. We did not observe the thin slice of white running across the secondaries as it swam out in the Snake River. THE BILL SHAPE AND RESTRICTED LIGHT SPOT ON THE UPPER MANDIBLE were also field marks that pointed to White-winged Scoter. Thank-you.
