Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 7. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On October 2 a BLACKPOLL WARBLER was seen near Seaside. BLUE JAYS were
reported during the week at Pendleton, the Grande Ronde Valley, and at
Enterprise. These birds might be part of a movement into Washington and
Idaho.

The October 2 offshore boat trip out of Newport found a MANX SHEARWATER, two
FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, 27 SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS, and 130 BULLER?S
SHEARWATERS. All three jaegers and three SKUAS were also seen.

Three PALM WARBLERS and seven LAPLAND LONGSPURS are now on the North Spit of
Coos Bay. Another PALM WARBLER was at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River
September 30. A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was at Florence October 1. On October
2 a FRANKLIN?S GULL was at the Necanicum River mouth in Gearhart.

On October 5 a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Ridgefield NWR. A BLACK-BILLED
MAGPIE was seen October 4 at Coon Point on Sauvie Island. SANDHILL CRANES
are now peaking on the Island. Up to 60 WHITE PELICANS and over 100 GREAT
EGRETS continue to be seen at Smith Lake in North Portland. On October 4 a
PRAIRIE FALCON was near Beavercreek. An early DUNLIN was at the Fernhill
Wetlands October 3.

Two BURROWING OWLS are now back at their winter burrows along Blueberry Road
near Halsey. On October 4 four COMMON LOONS, three HORNED GREBES, 10 EARED
GREBES, a SURF SCOTER, and two GREATER SCAUP were on Foster Reservoir near
Sweet Home.

A flock of seven BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was reported October 3 at Ogden Wayside
north of Redmond. On October 3 a longspur was at Hatfield Lake near Bend. On
September 30 an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was at Cold Springs NWR near
Hermiston. On October 3 over 6000 SHOVELERS were at Lake Abert.
