This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Thursday, October 7th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Thursday, October 7th

The following birds were reported from the Reifel Refuge:
2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES and 2 CASPIAN TERNS.

At the Iona Island Sewage Ponds were 2 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS.

At the mouth of the Nicomekl River was 1 LONG-BILLED CURLEW.

Sightings for Wednesday, October 6th

The following birds were reported from the Reifel Refuge:
2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, 3 CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICHAKEES, 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR, 6
SANDHILL CRANES, 1 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 1
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and 1 REDHEAD.

At Blackie Spit there was 1 LONG-BILLED CURLEW and 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR.

Sightings for Tuesday, October 5th

The following birds were reported from the Reifel Refuge:
2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, 1 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR,
1 CINNAMON TEAL, 6 SANDHILL CRANES, 1 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 90 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 520 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 3 YELLOW
WARBLERS, 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 1 REDHEAD.

At the Iona Island Sewage Ponds was a flock of 60 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS that
had 2 juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS.

In Boundary Bay off 104th Street was a group of 2 MARBLED GODWITS, 1
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and 1 RED KNOT.
