On October 1, Nancy LaFramboise located a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER at the
Yakima Delta. Within an hour, the water had risen and the shorebirds
departed. This is the 4th record for the Yakima Delta. The others
occurred in 1975, 1986, and 1990 observed by Bob Woodley. Also at the
delta were a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and the continued presence of a SABINE'S
GULL and a BONAPARTE'S GULL.

Ron and Carole Louderback found a MERLIN with a kill on October 1 in Kennewick.

There was a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW in Groves Park, south of Newcomer
Street, in Richland on October 4 observed by Bob Woodley.

On October 7 at the Yakima Delta, Bob Woodley reported a PEREGRINE FALCON,
3 SANDERLING, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and 24 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS among the usuals.

Bob Woodley noted 4 CACKLING GEESE among many Canada Geese at Nelson Island
in Groves Park in Richland on October 8. Some subspecies of Canada Geese
are now considered a separate species and have been named Cackling Geese
after one of the subspecies.

Denny Granstrand found a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 2 DUNLIN and 2 SANDERLING at
the Yakima Delta on October 8. These birds were still present on October
10, noted by Bill and Nancy LaFramboise. In addition a SABINE'S GULL and a
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER were present on the 10th.

Laurie Ness and Steve Weiss had a WESTERN SCREECH-OWL in their North
Richland yard on October 9.
