I took my son fishing today on the Soleduck River,and having arrived an
hour before the crack of dawn, I opted to owl for a bit on La Push Road..

I think I heard 4-5 Long-eared Owls calling, but I may have misidentified
them. I checked my CD against what I was hearing, but I have doubts only
because I don't know of any records of Long-eareds out there, but then, I
have never owled out there before. LEOW is listed as having less than 5
records in Clallam county.

I also had one Northern Saw-whet that dive-bombed me, but remained hidden
in a small fir tree.

In the afternoon, on the way out, I saw a Northern Pygmy Owl perched at
the top of a 12 foot fir tree alongside the road, intent on staring down
dinner.
