Hi Tweeters,

About half an hour (7:15-7:30am) ago I saw an
interesting sandpiper(!) at Medina Park.

It had a dark cap, possibly rufousy, strong pale
eyeline, buffy breast with thin stripe markings on the
lateral edges of the breast. Long mostly straight (it
might droop just a bit) bill, about as long as the
head. Legs yellowish.

My guess: Sharp-tailed Sandpiper

Many qualifiers include that this would be a life bird
for me. I have never seen any sandpiper of any type
at Medina Park before. Many of my fellow birders have
never seen the Green Herons I see there all the time.


Anyway I wanted to get this online ASAP in the hopes
someone who has time could check this out. I saw the
bird on the easterly end of the big pond on the gravel
area.

Directions I405 to Bellevue, take NE 8th exit, go
west, stay on NE 8th past Bellevue Square, keep going
straight, NE 8th turns into NE 12th. At a five way
STOP go straight and the park is on the left. The
first pond is right at the NE12th parking lot. The
main big pond is just beyond this pond. The gravelly
end I saw the sandpiper on would be to your left.
