Hello tweets,

Forgive me for asking such a stupid question, but I am
confused as to why anyone would feed animal
product-free foods to animals that clearly evolved as
carnivorous creatures. Even if birds (in this case)
are fooled into eating animal product-free suet, how
might this food impact their health and long-term
survival? Just because these birds have a full belly
doesn't mean their digestive systems are equipped to
handle these foods and in fact, I'd bet they are not
equipped to digest vegan foods efficiently. This can
mean the difference between life and death, especially
during during winters and other times of stress when
birds must burn a lot of calories efficiently simply
to survive the night. I am particularly concerned
about those birds, such as chickadees, that require
high amount of fat in their diets. I'd be interested
to know if anyone has looked into this or has any
thoughts they'd like to share.
