I was downtown going to the bank and I see this woman taking pictures
of a tree...I think nothing of it...the leaves are changing and it
would be picturesque. Anyway I then see others looking at the tree.
So I look up and sure enough there is an Owl in the tree. I whip out
my Sibley guide and turn to the owls. Some guy is standing over my
shoulder, looking at the book, saying "there! look at that picture it
is a great grey owl". I respond "I don't think so it has black eyes",
not mentioning the fact it looks nothing like the picture. So the
black eyes and the size narrowed it down to the spotted owl or the
barred owl. It didn't have spots but it have bold streaks thus I
concluded it was a BARRED OWL. The best part was that it was in the
middle of downtown Seattle. If any of you work downtown go check it
out I don't think it is going anywhere. It is located on the south
east corner of 4th and Union in front of a Jewelry store. It was in
the Second tree (heading east) from the corner, about half way up the
tree.
