Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Wednesday October 20. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

A BLUE JAY is now being seen at the Sisters Ranger District Offices in
Sisters and two are visiting a feeder in Burns. Among the many LAPLAND
LONGSPURS at the South Jetty of the Columbia River October 18 was a well
marked CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR.

Very heavy migratory movements were reported during the week, especially
coastal movements of gulls and waterfowl. The first major wave of MEW GULLS
and DUSKY CANADA GEESE arrived in this movement.

On October 16 a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was near Cape Blanco. A flock of 18
LAPLAND LONGSPURS were on the North spit of Coos Bay October 20. On October
16 an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River.
Among the many birds found on an October 18 offshore boat trip out of
Newport were 160 BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, 85 BULLER?S SHEARWATER, 2-3
FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, 1200 FULMARS, 300 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS, AND 1000
CASSIN?S AUKLET. On October 19 a SABINE?S GULL was at the mouth of the
Necanicum River in Gearhart and two ROCK SANDPIPERS were on the South Jetty
of the Columbia River.

WHITE PELICANS continue to be seen at Smith Lake in North Portland. Two have
been at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove during the week. Two EARED
GREBES and two HORNED GREBES are also at the wetlands. On October 11, 16
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir. On October 19 a
LAPLAND LONGSPUR was on Mt. Pisgah near Eugene.
