The past couple days have provided some interesting bird sightings while I have been out hills. Monday morning, right after daybreak I saw and heard a few Mountain Quail in a clearcut on the A-2300 Weyerhaeuser logging road accessed from Newman Creek Rd.. I detailed this area in the last issue of Washington Birder for all those that are interested.

Also, Tuesday afternoon while standing on a logging landing in the hills near Minot Peak which is to the south of Elma, a group of at least four Western Bluebirds were flying around the clearcut. I spotted at least 2 males and 2 females here. They were quite active and fun to watch.

I almost forgot that Monday also yielded 7 Greater White-fronted Geese in a field on the east side of Wakefield Rd. just south of its intersection with Wenzel Slough Rd..

Lastly, Tuesday night while my family and I were on the way home, my wife had to swerve the car to miss a Barn Owl that was standing in the road. The owl took flight just as we passed it giving us an awesome view of its underside. What a sight!

Good birding,
