This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Friday, October 22nd, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Friday, October 22nd
The ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was easily found all day along the hedgerow that
parallels 72nd Street.

At Blackie Spit in White Rock was a flock of 6 MARBLED GODWITS, 1
LONG-BILLED CURLEW, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 1 WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.

At the Reifel Refuge was 1 BARN SWALLOW.

Sightings for Thursday, October 21st
Rare Bird Alert! An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was found in the afternoon along
the hedgerow that borders 72nd Street near the Turf Farm.

In a field off 34th Street near Brunswick Point there was still 1 PACIFIC
GOLDEN PLOVER.

The following birds were reported from the Reifel Refuge:
1 GOLDEN EAGLE, 2 BARN SWALLOWS, 1 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE, 1 CHESTNUT-BACKED
CHICKADEE and 1 SNOW BUNTING.

At Point Roberts in Washington the RUDDY TURNSTONE was refound near the
Marina. In a field nearby was a HORNED LARK and a SNOW BUNTING. At
Lighthouse Marine Park was a HEERMANN'S GULL.

Sightings for Wednesday, October 20th

In a field near the base of the Roberts Bank Coal Port Jetty was 1 juvenile
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER.

In a late report the following birds were reported from the Reifel Refuge:
1 immature GOLDEN EAGLE, 2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and 700+
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Also seen in the field outside the refuge was an
apparent SNOW GOOSE X ROSS'S GOOSE hybrid.

At Blackie Spit was 1 LONG-BILLED CURLEW, 1 MARBLED GODWIT and 2 WESTERN
MEADOWLARKS.

On the Iona Island Outer Pond was a flock of 3 REDHEADS.
