Tweets,

George Gerdts, Brad Waggoner, Jerry Pilny from Calgary, and I kept our appointment with THE GULL this morning, Saturday, October 23, at North Cove. We arrived at 8:15 AM with the tide still coming in and found it roosting with about 200 gulls at the usual spot. We were able to watch it do its various things until we left at 9:30 AM to pursue other possibilities. We returned to the spot about 11 AM and it had gone.

So, thanks to Charlie and Alan et al. for the tip about the in-coming tide. It worked for us this beautiful morning. It was my fourth trip for this particular crap shoot. We carefully avoided mentioning THE GULL by name on the way out for fear of the JYNX. In any case, it worked.

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was as usual hanging out with the 1000 or so Marbleds, etc., at the Tokeland Marina. It seems quite large and very long billed, thus likely a female. Also found a few Mountain Chickadees in Tokeland but not in quite the numbers we encountered two weeks ago.

Patience and persistence will be rewarded.

Gene Hunn.
