Yesterday, Friday October 22, we ventured north to see what was around. We
found a few birds worth mentioning.

At Bridgeport we saw the Blue Jay originally reported by Meredith
Spencer. It was quite vocal.

Across the Columbia on the way into Bridgeport State Park we found a
Loggerhead Shrike. Not too far up Rt 97 from there was a Northern Shrike.

We stopped in Tonasket and picked up sandwiches for dinner on the road. We
wanted to listen for owls after dark.

We drove Hungry Hollow Road and Mary Ann Creek Road and into Molson. We
were surprised to see a Bonaparte's Gull on Molson Lake.

On the way back, we stopped along Hungry Hollow to eat. Not long after we
parked, a Great Gray Owl flew in and sat on a fence post. It was actively
looking around its perch. It flew down and came up with dinner of its
own. It flew a few more times before returning into the woods. 45 minutes
have never passed so quickly.

We went to Highlands Sno-Park but failed to hear Barred Owl though we have
heard it there in the past. A Northern Pygmy-Owl hooted for several minutes.
