Hi Tweets,

I checked the Hoquiam STP this afternoon where I was mainly looking for waterfowl. Birds seen on the pond include: Canada Goose (200+), Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Ruddy Duck, Ring-necked Duck, Scaup, Green-winged Teal (only 2), American Coot, and Surf Scoter. I thought I caught a quick glimpse of a Canvasback, but I couldn't locate it again so I wasn't too sure. It was quite windy there. I did take a quick peek at the mudflats of Bowerman Basin where there were good amounts of small shorebirds. I didn't scope them out though, but I thought I would mention them if someone goes looking.

I also stopped up at the pond at the Satsop Development Park (also known as the nuke site) to see what ducks were seeking shelter. This pond is surrounded by trees so until the leaves all fall its a bit difficult to get a whole view of the pond. Here's what I found: Mallard (the most numerous species), American Wigeon, American Coot, Bufflehead, Ring-necked Duck, Pied-billed Grebe, and Northern Pintail (at least 4).

Good birding,

Tim O'Brien
