Tweets - sorry for the late posting. I led a Seattle Audubon trip to
Spencer Island (Everett, Snohomish Co., WA) on Saturday, 10/23/2004.

Luckily, nobody paid attention to the weather reports, since the day turned
out to be absolutely beautiful, despite the predictions of rain and
thundershowers.

There weren't too many earthshaking sightings, but we did have some
interesting birds:

EARED GREBE 2 at the east edge of the main "oxidation lagoon"
American Bittern Popped up briefly n. of cross-island dike
Northern Pintail About 20, seen from cross-island dike
Green-winged Teal 300+ from cross-island dike
Canvasback 1 female on oxidation lagoon (more Thursday)
Common Goldeneye Pair just north of cross-island dike
Ruddy Duck At least 1000 on the oxidation lagoon
Merlin 1 or two seen over southern half of island
Peregrine Falcon 2 perched at south end of island
Lincoln's Sparrow Great looks near barn!

I also did a scouting trip Thursday, which yielded a few not seen Saturday:

Pacific Loon? Or maybe Red-throated. Flyby.
Red-necked Grebe 1 juvenile in oxidation lagoon
Western Grebe 1 north of cross-island dike
Gr. Wh-fr. Goose 1 landed south of cross-island dike
Lesser Scaup Several north of cross-island dike
Pileated Woodpecker Near barn
Hermit Thrush Near hunnybucket

The best sighting of the day was an up-close look at a juvenile PEREGRINE
FALCON in a nearby snag at the south end of the island. The bird had very
strong orange tones to the plumage. While we watched it, a RED-TAILED HAWK
made several close passes, and a MERLIN sped by. There was also a probable
COOPER'S HAWK in the immediate viscinity.

The only gulls noted were Glaucous-winged Gull, Mew Gull, and Bonaparte's
Gull

Between both days, 66 species.
