Hello, tweeters,

I'm back in Washington state after a nearly two-month absence, and celebrated my return with a visit to Nisqually NWR on Sunday (9am-noon).

One of the best sightings was an AMERICAN BITTERN at the Visitor Center, just to the right of the walkway in the cattail pond. The bird was there when I first arrived at 9am and was still there when I left at noon.

Other highlights included large numbers of both CACKLING and CANADA geese; many ducks; a nice mixed flock of SPARROWS down toward McAllister Creek, mostly WHITE-CROWNED but including SOOTY FOX, LINCOLN'S, and one GOLDEN-CROWNED; a WINTER WREN on the boardwalk toward the twin barns; a male WOOD DUCK on ponds west of the barns; and a flock of PINE SISKINS near the visitor center.
