Around noon today, just as I was leaving JBP, a small group of swans circled
a couple of times and then landed out in the Bay. After a quick trip to the
car for my scope, I was able to establish that they were TUNDRA SWANS
2
adults and 5 juveniles. There are 2 previous records (that I know of) of
Tundras, and both were in the last week of October.

Other waterfowl are arriving in more numbers and species, but a little
slower than in past years. Recent arrivals:
* COMMON LOON
* Large numbers of American Wigeon, Green-winged Teal, and Ring-necked Duck
* The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE continues to hang out with the Canadas
* Northern Shoveler
* Canvasback
* Lesser Scaup
* SURF SCOTER (1 juv./1st winter was present last week)
* Bufflehead
* Hooded Merganser
* Common Merganser
* Ruddy Duck
* And of course, many Wood Ducks, Gadwall, and Mallards

The Peregrine Falcon continues its daily visits, often perching for hours at
a time with an obviously full crop. With the plentiful food sources, maybe
it will stay around this winter.

And yesterday, I saw a late migrating Common Yellowthroat female mingling
with the many sparrows in the blackberries.
