Thanks to all of you who have cautioned me that my friend may be facing
problems because of her stuffed eagle.

Before contacting me she called/wrote to several federal and state agencies.
What she has learned is that, because this bird was killed and stuffed
before the eagle protection law was enacted/amended in 1940/1960 (or so),
it's OK for her to have it and give it away. She can't sell or otherwise
profit from it. She's been told to write up a blurb about it, that it's
from the 30's, it's from her grandfather, she donated it to the school,
hasn't profited from it, etc., and attach it to the mounting somewhere.
She's pretty confident she'd be able to defend/rebut any accusations.

That being said, I've passed on the suggestion that she get someone to take
digital photos of the birds. She's also asked me once again to see if
anyone would be willing to help her ID the bird. I've also suggested she
call Seattle Audubon to see if someone would meet her up at the Nature Shop
to take a look. Apparently she is speaking to a school assembly on Nov. 9
and wants to be able to accurately ID the stuffed bird she's donating to the
school. Can't blame her there, eh??
