This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, October 30th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited,
with stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured bird is SNOWY OWL.

Sightings for Saturday, October 30th:

At Iona, a SNOWY OWL was seen today on the north jetty at 11:30 am.
The bird was approximately 1 km past the log chipping area. It was
not seen when looked for again at 4:00 pm, although it could still
be in the area.

Also at Iona, a flock of AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were seen 200 metres
past the parking lot on the road to the log chipping area.
A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen in the northwest corner of the
northwest pond. 55 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS also seen here. 4
REDHEAD on the outer pond, 4 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen on the south
jetty.

In Delta, the ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER remains along the 72nd street
hedgerow. Also here, an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER.

Also in Delta, along 34th street, near 33A Ave, an AMERICAN GOLDEN
PLOVER, RED KNOT, 6 LEAST SANDPIPERS mixed in with BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS. Nearby, 3 SNOW BUNTINGS and 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen.

A NORTHERN PYGMY OWL was sighted in Burnaby today in Stoney Creek
Park off Beaverbrooke Avenue, behind Lougheed Mall (on path along
GRVD right of way).

At Blackie Spit, the LONG-BILLED CURLEW was seen along with 4
MARBLED GODWIT today. Nearby 7 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 30 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS.

In Stanley Park, 10 RED CROSSBILLS were at 3rd Beach parking lot.

2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES and 6 EVENING GROSBEAK were seen at Reifel
today.

Sightings for Friday, October 29th:

GYR FALCON seen briefly at Reifel today. Also 2 BARN SWALLOWS.

In Tsawwassen, 7 BLACK BRANT sighted at Boundary Bay Regional Park.
