My wife and I also put in some time the last couple of evenings looking for
the reported Long-billed Murrelet off Luhr Beach (and salmon fishing along
the drop-off.) So far we've had no luck. We've seen the usual Rhinoceros
Auklets and guillemots, along with a pair of standard-issue Marbled
Murrelets, which I assume is the same pair that has been around the
Nisqually Reach for the last three weeks.

We've enjoyed seeing a number of Horned and Red-necked Grebes, some still in
colorful alternate plumage. And we watched an Osprey dismember a large
sculpin. Scattered groups of Red-necked Phalaropes have been feeding along
the rips.

There has been a small flock of Common Terns in the area, but no big flocks
yet; the sand lances (small skinny silvery fish that really attract terns)
have not been plentiful so far.
