This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, September 4, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited,
with stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Saturday, September 4:

14 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen close to 72nd Street at the
turf farm. Another BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was near the pilings
between 104th and 96th Streets in Delta. 2 STILT SANDPIPERS were at
the mansion.

3 MARBLED GODWITS were at the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen
ferry jetty.

5 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES could still be found in the pond along
Highway 17.

4 HORNED LARKS were on the south jetty of Iona Island, along with a
SHORT-EARED OWL. A PARASITIC JAEGER was seen at the tip of the jetty
as well as FRANKLIN'S GULLS.

In a late report for Thursday, 8 SANDHILL CRANES were near the road
leading to the landfill site in Delta.

Friday, September 3:

The WANDERING TATTLER was relocated along the south jetty at Iona
Island, between the first and second shelters at sewer cover 17B.
Also here at sewer cover 6B were 3 HORNED LARKS.

Another WANDERING TATTLER was at the end of the Tsawwassen ferry
jetty on the south side and just east of Birth 1.

1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were in the
pond at Highway 17. 1 STILT SANDPIPER was at the mansion.

Cecil Green Park had 3 TOWSEND'S SOLITAIRES and 6 BLACK SWIFTS.

There were 32 PURPLE MARTINS and a COMMON NIGHTHAWK at the Maplewood
Conservation Area in North Vancouver.

Out of town an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was at the Cheam Lake wetlands.

Thursday, September 2:

1 HORNED LARK was on the south jetty at Iona Island.

An AMERICAN BITTERN was on the north pond of the PNE.

Wednesday, September 1:

A WANDERING TATTLER was on the south jetty of Iona Island, on the
north side between the 2 shelters. 6 SURFBIRDS and 3 MARBLED
MURRELETS were at the tip.

Only 1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was at the turf farms along 72nd
Street. 3 SANDHILL CRANES were also in the area.

The flooded field along Highway 17 held 3 STILT SANDPIPERS and 1
WILSON'S PHALAROPE.

6 RED KNOTS were at the mansion off 96th Street and a MARBLED GODWIT
and 1 RED KNOT was at the foot of 104th.
