Breaker Lake, Pacific County, Washington
September 7, 2004

I still haven't actually seen the bear, but I think I
was pretty close this morning. Immediately upon my
arrival at station 09, I heard a repeated "grrruph,
grrruph" for about the first minute of the timed count.
Two RUFFED GROUSE were out in the Salal and Cascara,
fattening up on berries. Surprisingly slow on the
migrant front, given the numbers we've been counting
in other places.
