This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Monday, September 6, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Monday, September 6:

The pond on Highway 17 had the first juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER
of the fall. Also here were 8 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS and 8 RED-
NECKED PHALAROPES.

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was again seen briefly off 96th Street in Delta.

An adult AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was at Mud Bay and a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER was at the foot of 104th.

WADERING TATTLERS could still be found at the tip of the Tsawwwassen
ferry jetty and on the south jetty at Iona Island at sewer cover 18B.


Sunday, September 5:

A juvenile BAR-TAILED GODWIT as well as juvenile HUDSONIAN and
MARBLED GODWITS were seen off 96th street in Delta. The MARBLED and
BAR-TAILED later hung out at Mud Bay, east of 112th street, with a
juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and a RED KNOT. Down the road at
112th Street there were 12 BANK SWALLOWS, while the mansion 2 STILT
SANDPIPERS.

Reifel had a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, 2 GREEN HERONS and 11
SANDHILL CRANES.

Out of town a NORTHERN WHEATEAR was seen on Saturday at Nisqually,
Washington, but the bird was not relocated today. Log on to Tweeters

Saturday, September 4:

14 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen close to 72nd Street at the
turf farm. Another BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was near the pilings
between 104th and 96th Streets in Delta. 2 STILT SANDPIPERS were at
the mansion.
3 MARBLED GODWITS were at the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen
ferry jetty.

4 HORNED LARKS were found along the south jetty of Iona Island, along
with a SHORT-EARED OWL. A PARASITIC JAEGER was seen at the tip of the
jetty as well as FRANKLIN'S GULLS.

In a late report for Thursday, 8 SANDHILL CRANES were near the road
leading to the landfill site in Delta.
