It is so great to see our 50+ years old Dogwood tree (Cornus
nuttalii) looking so healthy these days. Its leaves are nice and
green, not blotchy with necrotic areas from the anthracnose
disease that had plagued it for several years. It now has a big
crop of bright red clusters of fruit that is bringing in flocks
of silent CEDAR WAXWINGS, talkative NORTHERN FLICKERS, a few
ROBINS, and several pairs of BAND-TAILED PIGEONS that bend the
branches way down. Even the BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES have been
investigating the red fruit, and a juvenile RED-BREASTED
SAPSUCKER stopped by to see what the commotion was all about.
What a beautiful season; bright blue skies, clear crisp air, and
birds enjoying the fruit of a large, healthy dogwood tree.
