I guess some of you missed my original post about the BirdBox. We had a
sewage back-up in our basement, home of the BirdBox computer, after the
big rainstorm. Luckily, the computer itself survived, but all the wet
and contaminated carpet and drywall had to be torn out. Right now, a
crew is in the middle of packing up and moving all the furniture and
about 5,000 books, and repairs will start next week. I can't plug the
computer back in until the drywall is replaced (the only phone jack for
the BirdBox line is in the middle of the mess, and the drywall repair
will generate large amounts of computer-unfriendly dust), but I hope to
get it plugged back in as soon as that is done, and make the painters
and carpet-layers work around it. Unfortunately, this might take as
long as a month.
My sister, who lives in Orlando, made it through two hurricanes
unscathed, but one big Seattle rainstorm has brought the BirdBox and me
to our knees! I apologize for the inconvenience; please be patient, and
I'll let you all know when the BirdBox is running again.
