Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 9. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On September 3 a probable CANADA WARBLER was seen along the Deschutes River
near LaPine. A male INDIGO BUNTING was near Sisters September 8.

A heavy movement involving good sized flocks is being reported from many
sections of the state. Noticeable movements of SWAINSON?S THRUSHES, FOX
SPARROWS, and GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS were also being reported. ELEGANT
TERNS are now increasing along the southern coast with sightings farther
north at the Siuslaw River mouth and the Necanicum River mouth. Up to three
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS are now being seen at the South Jetty of the
Siuslaw River. On September 7 a CURLEW SANDPIPER was near the North Jetty of
the Siuslaw.

The first group of SANDHILL CRANES of the season was at Ridgefield NWR
September 5. On September 2 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was in the residential
area of northwest Portland. An ARCTIC TERN was at Timothy Lake in the
Cascades September 1. A SANDERLING was there September 8.

A BLACK PHOEBE was at Ankeny NWR September 6. On September 2 a BROWN PELICAN
was observed flying southward along the crest of the Cascades near McKenzie
Pass. On September 8 a SABINE?S GULL was at Dexter Reservoir southeast of
Eugene.

A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was near Powell Butte September 3. On September 6 a
COMMON TERN was at Ochoco Reservoir near Prineville. A SABINE?S GULL and two
RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were at the Gutierrez Ranch near Paulina on September
4. Another SABINE?S GULL was at Haystack Reservoir near Madras September 6.

On September 8 a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was at McNary Dam. A CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW was at Malheur NWR Headquarters September 4. The next day a PYGMY
NUTHATCH was seen there.
