Tuesday September 07, 2004:
One FOX SPARROW and six GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS were sighted along Rock City
Road in Nanaimo.

Monday September 06:
:RARE BIRD ALERT:
One FEMALE RUFF was seen on the Courtney River Estuary at the Base of Millar
Crescent in Courtney.
One PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER and one SEMIPALMATED PLOVER were seen at the
Nanaimo River Estuary, Holden Creek side in south Nanaimo.
HORNED LARKS, AMERICAN PIPETS, COOPERS, SHARP-SHINED and RED-TAILED HAWKS
and over twenty COMMON RAVENS were spotted at the top of Mount Cokely.

Sunday September 05:
Two HORNED LARKS were seen at Mud Bay along Ship's Point Road in Fanny Bay.
Six RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, RED-NECKED and HORNED GREBES, ANCIENT and MARBLED
MURRELETS, a RHINOCEROS AUKLET and a PIGEON GUILLEMOT were seen at Deep Bay.
One BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, 25 HOUSE FINCHES, seven RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES,
one DARK-HEADED JUNCO, two PILEATED WOODPECKERS, 30 CHESTNUT-BACKED
CHICKADEES, two STELLER JAYS, six TURKEY VULTURES, four BAND-TAILED PIGEONS,
one RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, 100 EUROPEAN STARLINGS, three NORTHERN FLICKERS, 21
CALIFORNIA QUAIL, four AMERICAN ROBINS and one PINE SISKEN were seen at
Cedar by the Sea.

Wednesday September 01:
A pair of ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS were seen in the 5000 block of Laguna Way in
Nanaimo.
Six LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, two COMMON YELLOWTHROATS and two ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLERS were spotted at the foot of Mills Road at the Englishman River
Estuary in Parksville.
A PILEATED WOODPECKER, a DOWNY WOODPECKER, a NORTHERN FLICKER, a BEWICK'S
WREN, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, RED-BREASTERD NUTHATCHES and over 20
CALIFORNIA QUAIL were seen along Overlook Drive in Nanaimo.


Tuesday August 31:
45 STELLER'S JAYS, three NORTHERN FLICKERS, one WESTERN TANAGER, a PURPLE
FINCH and 13 CALIFORNIA QUAIL were seen in the 700 block of Ermineskin
Avenue in Parksville.

Monday August 30:
Over 54 WOOD DUCKS, one AMERICAN COOT and three STELLER'S JAY were seen at
Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.

This Sunday Bird walk on September 12, will be going to Buttertubs Marsh.
Meet at the store at 8:30 am or at the parking lot off Bowen Road at
Buttertubs Marsh at about 8:45 am.

We are planning our third seabird boat tour with Beachcombers Excursions
aboard the 41' M.V. Terry Wayne for October 09.
The plan is to leave Beachcomber Marina at 9:00 am for six hours of
birding. We will travel up the Strait of Georgia to the Little Qualicum
River Estuary and return via Lasqueti Island. We will return to
Beachcomber Marina at 3 p.m. The cost will be $40.00 per person
There is space on the boat for twelve people. If you would like to join

so that we can finalize the plans.
