This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Friday, September 10, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.


Sightings for Friday, September 10:

A MARBLED MURRELET was seen off 20th Avenue along the sea wall in
West Vancouver.

Reifel had 2 BALCK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and an offshore PARASITIC
JAEGER, and in a late report for Wednesday, a GREAT EGRET flew by the
tower at Reifel.


Thursday, September 9:

A juvenile BAR-TAILED GODWIT, as well as a juvenile MARBLED GODWIT,
AMERICAN-GOLDEN PLOVER and RED KNOT were seen off 104th Street in
Delta. Also briefly seen was an unusual buffy wader with grey wings
that was seen flying towards 72nd street.

A STILT SANDPIPER and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were seen at the scrape
off Highway 17.

A GREY CATBIRD was seen at Pitt Lake.


Wednesday, September 8:

A juvenile BROWN PELICAN was seen briefly from the end of the
Tsawwassen ferry jetty. Also here, east of Birth #1 was a WANDERING
TATTLER. A FRANKLIN'S GULL and 3 MARBLED GODWITS were at the
compensation lagoon.

Another FRANKLIN'S GULL was on the south side of Sea Island on Inglis
Drive.


Tuesday, September 7:

A dark morph PARASITIC JAEGER was off the tip of the south jetty at
Iona Island.


Monday, September 6:

The pond on Highway 17 had the first juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER
of the fall. Also here were 8 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS and 8 RED-
NECKED PHALAROPES.

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was again seen briefly off 96th Street in Delta.

An adult AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was at Mud Bay and a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER was at the foot of 104th.

WADERING TATTLERS could still be found at the tip of the Tsawwwassen
ferry jetty and on the south jetty at Iona Island at sewer cover 18B.
