This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, September 11, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited,
with stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.


Sightings for Saturday, September 11:

Rare bird alert for a LITTLE STINT, a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK and a
REEVE!

A juvenile LITTLE STINT was seen at the pilings 400 meters east of
96th Street in Delta. The bird then flew towards 72nd Street.

An immature female ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was seen at the playground
on Burnaby Mountain Park in the morning.

A juvenile REEVE was in the north west sewage pond at Iona Island.

The juvenile BAR-TAILED GODWIT continued to be seen of 96th street
along with a juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER. Also in the area were
better than usual numbers of BANK SWALLOWS.

The 3 MARBLED GODWITS and the FRANKLIN'S GULL were also found at the
compensation lagoon off the Tsawwassen ferry jetty.

A flock of EVENING GROSBEAKS were on 35th Avenue and Pine Crescent in
Vancouver.

Blackie Spit had a MARBLED GODWIT and a LONG-BILLED CURLEW.


Friday, September 10:

A MARBLED MURRELET was seen off 20th Avenue along the sea wall in
West Vancouver.

Reifel had 2 BALCK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS and an offshore PARASITIC
JAEGER, and in a late report for Wednesday, a GREAT EGRET flew by the
tower at Reifel.


Thursday, September 9:

A juvenile BAR-TAILED GODWIT, as well as a juvenile MARBLED GODWIT,
AMERICAN-GOLDEN PLOVER and RED KNOT were seen off 104th Street in
Delta. Also briefly seen was an unusual buffy wader with grey wings
that was seen flying towards 72nd street.

A STILT SANDPIPER and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were seen at the scrape
off Highway 17.

A GREY CATBIRD was seen at Pitt Lake.
