The following birds were observed by Wayne Weber on September 12,
2004 at Point Roberts, Whatcom County, WA. Areas visited included
Benson Road west of Tyee Dr., Lighthouse Marine Park, Lily Point, and
the "slough trail" near the Point Roberts Marina.

The weather was very favorable, and lots of songbirds were seen, but
the numbers and variety of waterbirds were very low, both at
Lighthouse Marine Park and Lily Point. A notable concentration of
sparrows, including White-crowned, Golden-crowned, Lincoln's,
Savannah, and Song, was seen in weedy fields and a brush pile along
Benson Road just west of Tyee Drive.

Noteworthy birds included 5 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS on the beach at
Lighthouse Marine Park (rare on Point Roberts, probably visiting from
the Tsawwassen jetty); a GREEN HERON along the slough near the marina
(only my second Point Roberts record); two singing Hutton's Vireos;
and a late
SWAINSON'S THRUSH on Benson Road.

Mammals observed included 5 HARBOR SEALS and at least 3 HARBOR
PORPOISES off Lighthouse Marine Park, and 2 DOUGLAS SQUIRRELS heard
calling in the forest. A PACIFIC TREE FROG was heard calling near
Benson Road and Teller Road.
