On Sept 12, 2004: Umtanum Ridge rest stop off of I-82 between Yakima and
Ellensburg. This is a very high vantage with breathtaking views. There
are two small water reservoirs there; one had water. 7-10 American Pipets
were on the rock levee surround of the the water. 4-5 Lark Buntings were
perched in tops of trees/shrubs along with a few House Finches (smaller/
slimmer than the buntings) on the north edge of the water. One of the
buntings had a good wing patch showing. These looked like they were
mostly "first year" birds. They were calling and whistling among
themselves, and were not as spooky as the Pipets.
