Tuesday, September 14, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited,
with stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.


Sightings for Tuesday, September 14, 2004:

2 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were in the southwest sewage pond at Iona
Island, while 3 PARASITIC JAEGERS were off the tip of the south jetty
and up to 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were at the end of the jetty.

An AMERICAN GOLEN PLOVER was seen over Reifel and a GREEN HERON was
at Colony Farm.

Monday, September 13:

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at the tip of the south jetty at Iona Island.

A RED KNOT was at the end of 96th Street in Delta and a STILT
SANDPIPER was at the mansion.

A LONG-BILLED CURLEW, a MARBLED GODWIT and 2 WHIMBREL were at Blackie
Spit.


Sunday, September 12, 2004:

The juvenile BAR-TAILED GODWIT was relocated east of 104th Street in
Delta. Also seen were the MARBLED GODWIT and an adult RED KNOT. One
of the few remaining BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS was briefly seen on the
foreshore at 72nd Street.

Only one RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was found at the scrape along Highway
17.

The 3 MARBLED GODWITS continue at the compensation lagoon on the
Tsawwassen ferry jetty.

6 TURKEY VULTURES were about 1 kilometer west of the Pitt Meadows
airport.

A GREEN HERON was near the marina at Point Roberts.

In a late report for Saturday, 3 juvenile GREAT-HORNED OWLS were
along the Grant Narrows Nature Trail and 10 BLACK SWIFTS were over
Deas Island near Ladner.


Saturday, September 11:

There was a rare bird alert for a juvenile LITTLE STINT that was seen
at the pilings 400 meters east of 96th Street in Delta. The bird then
flew towards 72nd Street.

An immature female ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was seen at the playground
on Burnaby Mountain Park in the morning.

A juvenile REEVE was in the northwest sewage pond at Iona Island.

The juvenile BAR-TAILED GODWIT continued to be seen of 96th street
along with a juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER. Also in the area were
better than usual numbers of BANK SWALLOWS.

The 3 MARBLED GODWITS and the FRANKLIN'S GULL were relocated at the
compensation lagoon off the Tsawwassen ferry jetty.


A flock of EVENING GROSBEAKS were on 35th Avenue and Pine Crescent in
Vancouver.

Blackie Spit had a MARBLED GODWIT and a LONG-BILLED CURLEW.
