This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Wednesday, September 15, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited,
with stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Wednesday, September 15:

There's a rare bird alert for a bird fitting the description of a
juvenile LITTLE STINT, which was seen at 8:30 in the morning in the
southwest sewage pond of Iona Island. The bird was not relocated at
the afternoon high tide, though the same ponds produced a RUFF and a
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER. Also at Iona, a WANDERING TATTLER was along
the south jetty as well as 8 LAPLAND LONGSPURS.

There's another rare bird alert for a CLAY-COLOURED SPARROW seen at
the foot of 96th street in Delta with a large flock of WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROWS. Also here was an adult RED KNOT, while the mansion had a
MARBLED GODWIT and a STILT SANDPIPER.

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was off 104th street, and a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER was near the pilings east of 96th street.

Another RUFF was at the scrape pond along Highway 17.

An interesting tern without black in its wings was seen plunge diving
for fish at the east end of Surrey Lake, which is located at 152nd
Street and 74th Avenue in Langly.

Tuesday, September 14:

2 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were in the southwest sewage pond at Iona
Island, while 3 PARASITIC JAEGERS were off the tip of the south jetty
and up to 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were at the end of the jetty.

An AMERICAN GOLEN PLOVER was seen over Reifel and a GREEN HERON was
at Colony Farm.

Monday, September 13:

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at the tip of the south jetty at Iona Island.

A RED KNOT was at the end of 96th Street in Delta and a STILT
SANDPIPER was at the mansion.

1 LONG-BILLED CURLEW, a MARBLED GODWIT and 2 WHIMBREL were at Blackie
Spit.
