Glad to hear Tim saw the Sandhill Cranes yesterday. On Saturday afternoon
my mother and I spent some time locating the birds. Our first encounter was
on the corner of Brady Loop Road E and the south end of Foster Road. There
were 64 birds in the grassy field on the corner. Though they showed a
mixture of winter and summer plumage, most were still predominately rust
colored. They eventually took off and flew SE toward the Satsop Nuke site.
We spotted them later flying from the west side of Schafer Boom Road to a
back field on the east side of Schafer Boom Road. At dusk my mother heard a
small group flying over her home on the Monte-Brady Road. This morning
(Sunday) we observed a group foraging in a harvested corn field opposite the
storage facility on the Monte-Brady Road. This is one of the largest
sightings we've had in the past several years.
