Birders,

I started my day at the small pond where I had the Indigo Bunting last
evening. No luck, unfortunately, in relocating the bird. Second stop was the
turf farm at Acland Rd and Hereron Rd. There were about 20 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS and 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS on the grass. I then visited Robert
Lake where I met up with Hank Vanderpol of Calgary. Up to 5 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS were on the shoreline but the AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER didn't appear
until a juvenile PEREGRINE FALCON flushed it from its hidden locality! The
Peregrine chased the 5 BBPL, the 1 AGPL and a few Long-billed Dowitchers,
Pectoral Sandpipers and Red-necked Phalaropes.

I then picked up Ryan Tomlinson and we headed for Salmon Arm. Our first stop
was the Nature Park at the foot of Narcisse Road. We walked through the
grasses to the shoreline and quickly found the juvenile SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPER amongst the Pectoral Sandpiper flock. The birds were right on the
shore in front of the Nature Park. Also here were 21 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS
and the 1 juv. AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER. At least 3 SANDERLINGS were picked
out of a distant flock of approx. 100 Pectoral Sandpipers. Overhead, 4
LAPLAND LONGSPURS called and were seen as they darted past.

We then walked in to the mouth of the Salmon River. The bushes near the
mouth of the river produced an imm. WHITE-THROATED SPARROW! As we scanned
the mudflats an additional 7 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were seen. The grasses
were crawling with hundreds of AMERICAN PIPITS, HORNED LARKS and LAPLAND
LONGSPURS, all of which were seen well. At least 10 juv. FRANKLIN'S GULLS
were feeding over the water. Overhead were 2 late COMMON NIGHTHAWKS!

Another nice weekend of birding,
