This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for September

On September 10, Steve Frazier located a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER in Moses
Lake near the airport and in the vicinity of Tyndall & Randolph
Roads. Many thanks to Ron & Carole Louderback for their update to the
alert on September 12. To our knowledge, it is still being seen.

On September 11, Craig & Judy Corder found a SABINE'S GULL at McNary Dam
among other gulls and terns. Bill & Nancy LaFramboise refound the bird as
late as September 18 but the birds appeared to have moved on by September 19th.

Laurie Ness noted a group of 7 TURKEY VULTURES over Keene and Shockley
Roads in Richland on September 16.

Jack & Murrel Dawson, Chris Simonen and Nancy LaFramboise were treated to
the unusual show of a juvenile PARASITIC JAEGER harassing a flock of gulls
at the ponds below the Tyson Plant in Wallula on September 17. The bird
remained the next day and several birders also found it and an AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER there. The golden-plover remained on September
19. Shorebird diversity has been high at the ponds including Western and
Least Sandpipers, Greater & Lesser Yellowlegs, Long-billed Dowitchers,
Pectoral Sandpipers, Black-bellied and Semipalmated Plovers, and
Sanderling. Bill & Nancy LaFramboise saw a PEREGRINE FALCON at the ponds
on September 19.

Dennis Johnson reported a flyover SWAINSON'S HAWK, most likely in Richland
on September 19. This time frame is just about the last of the sightings
for the season for this hawk.

SANDHILL CRANES have started south and Margaret Greger and Scott Dietert
both noted large strings of them over Richland on September 19.
