On Sunday morning, my wife and I watched a kettle of vultures form up over
Whidbey Island, a mile or so south of Deception Pass on the north end. The
birds were flying in low from all directions, joining the kettle at the
bottom and spiraling upward in the kettle. The flock reached a maximum size
of about 75 birds, when they started pealing off from the top and gliding
off to the southeast.

I'm starting to get reports of larger groups of turkey vultures heading
south. This is the peak time coming up for large migratory flocks. I won't
be able to be at Salt Creek this fall, unfortunately, so I would appreciate
any migrants you happen to see. Last year there were several large kettles
reported in and around Seattle and the South Sound area. Good luck in
seeing these great birds!!!
