Tweeters and Inlanders,

A 5-day expedition to eastern Washington and northern Oregon,
September 14 to 19, failed in its first objective of finding the
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher at Moses Lake (no luck in 4 hours of looking
on Sept. 14). However, I did find a few other interesting birds,
mainly in Grant, Benton, and Walla Walla Counties. Highlights are as
follows:

Sabine's Gull-- adult still present at Soap Lake (S end) on Sept. 14.
Stilt Sandpiper-- one present with yellowlegs and peeps at Lind
Coulee south
of Moses Lake, Sept. 14
Tern sp. (probably Common)-- 10 distant birds at the Yakima R. Delta,
Kennewick, on Sept. 15, although the only tern positively ID'd was
a
nearby Forster's.
Peregrine Falcon-- one on a telephone pole near Othello, Sept. 14;
one
at the Yakima R. delta, Sept. 15. These are the first I've seen in
E WA;
they must be getting more frequent there.
Sanderling-- one still present at the Tyson ponds off Dodd Road,
Walla
Walla Co., Sept. 15
Red Knot-- one still present at Tyson Ponds, Sept. 15
Sandhill Crane-- 9 at Tyson Ponds, Sept. 15 (early arrivals?).

I will be posting more detailed lists of birds seen over the next few
days at the website http://birdnotes.net , perhaps with copies to
TWEETERS and
INLAND-NW-BIRDERS.
