This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Monday, September 20, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Monday, September 20:

The CLAY-COLOURED SPARROW was again seen at Iona Island in the
southeast corner of the southeast pond. Also at Iona on the south
side of the southwest pond was a juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER.

In a late report for Sunday a juvenile BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a DUSKY
FLYCATCHER were seen at Reifel in trees behind the washrooms in the
parking lot.


Sunday, September 19:

A CLAY-COLOURED SPARROW was on the path in the southeast corner of
the southeast sewage pond at Iona Island. The bird later flew into
the bushes lower down in the pond. Also at Iona, 10 Lapland Longspurs
were at the end of the south jetty.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was at 95th Avenue and Grant Place in North
Delta.

At Boundary Bay a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and an AMERICAN GOLDEN
PLOVER were on the foreshore at the foot of 72nd Street. Another
GOLDEN PLOVER was just west of Mud Bay Park and the STILT SANDPIPER
could still be found at the mansion, while the adult BAR-TAILED
GODWIT and a MARBLED GODWIT were west of 88th street. The
compensation lagoon in Tsawwassen had 4 MARBLED GODWITS.


Saturday, September 18:

36 EVENING GROSBEAKS were at the top of a fir tree at the corner of
34th Avenue and Pine Crescent in Vancouver.

Another 4 EVENING GROSBEAKS were at Reifel along with a BANK SWALLOW
and 3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.


Friday, September 17:

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Reifel in the West field.

5 MARBLED GODWITS were at the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen
ferry jetty.


Thursday, September 16:

1 MARBLED GODWIT was at the foot of 104th Street in Delta.
