Subject: Monroe Vaux's swifts, Thursday evening

Thanks for the recent posts about the Vaux's swifts roosting in Monroe; I
made the drive last night and found the swifts already swirling around the
Frank Wagner Middle School by 7pm. The drive from Ballard took at least an
hour, about 15 minutes longer than I had expected. I also mistakenly drove
to the school district office, which also has a large chimney that is said
to host Vaux's swifts.

Just as Fred Bird was telling us about a merlin observation, a merlin flew
overhead with its prey, presumably one of the swifts. The last of the swifts
disappeared into the chimney about 7:20pm, as reported in earlier posts.
