.............After the fog and low clouds burned off, Sunday proved to
be an absolutely perfect day( 65-70 degrees) at the Ridgefield
NWR--River-S Unit---north of Vancouver, Wash.
..............Rest Lake was crowded with hundreds of ducks.
....WIDGEONS, 1 SCAUP; PINTAILS; MALLARDS; 5 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE;
several LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS; 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS; and........in the
middle of this sea of ducks stood 1 immature brownish DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANT!!!
..............G. BLUE HERONS eveywhere, and.....almost as many GREAT
EGRETS. Small numbers of SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying overhead and
resting on the grounds.
...............Along the south side of the lake was seen a COMMON SNIPE
ambling along the edge, and just a but further on an immature GREEN
HERON was keeping a motionless watch. HARRIER HAWKS and RED-TAILED
HAWKS soared overhead.
..............In the fields and trees, along with a rabbit,
wereGOLDFINCHES; a few remaining SWALLOWS; 1 OREGON JUNCO (with an
unusually bright rose-colored bill!!); WHITE -CROWNED SPARROWS(
including 1 juvenile); SAVANNAH SPARROWS; 1 LINCOLNS SPARROW; RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS; a small brown wren sized bird( aMARSH WREN or a HOUSE
WREN???); house finches; 1 belted kingfisher; 1 scrub jay.
..............And other "more mundane" species of songbirds. Along with
an assortment of brown-colord birds flitting arround the treetops
along the trail, that wouldn't stay put long enough to oblige me a
discerning look!!! :-)

..............And then there were the ones present I didn't see!!!
