Yesterday I set out to try and locate the Bar-tailed Godwit and the
Black-tailed Gull. Found the Godwit immediately upon arrival at Tokeland
Marina at 9:30 AM together with the Marbleds, a few Willets and 3 Whimbrels,
but failed to locate the gull after a few attempts at North Cove. A nice
surprise was a Palm Warbler which was also at Tokeland. It was a very active
and vocal bird and quite bold coming to within a few feet of me. It was
foraging on the south end of the Marina along the broken pilings there while
the tide was out.
Also made a stop at Northern Johns River WRA parking area. About 300 yards
up the trail, the woods were swarming with birds. Warblers included
Black-throated Gray, and dozens of Townsends, most I've ever seen, BC and CB
Chickadees, RC Kinglets, RB Nuthatches together with Steller Jays, N
Flickers, 2 Hairy Woodpeckers and 4 RB Sapsuckers. These birds seemed to
all be moving through the woods together. Also one Ruffed Grouse along the
trail.
Any advice on where to find Snowy Plovers? Tried Midway beach with no luck,
though I did see a few Pacific Golden Plovers, Long-billed Dowitchers ( I
think they were long ), and SP Plovers there.
