Hello,

You may be mistaking "Vancouver" for Vancouver Island. There are no
remnant flocks of Eurasian Skylarks anywhere in the City of Vancouver, or on
the the mainland of Canada. There are breeding Eurasian Skylarks in Saanich,
on Vancouver Island, which is about 60 kms southwest of Semiahmoo. The
Skylarks originally introduced on Vancouver Island were the source of those
that once nested on San Jaun Island, so there is a precedent for them making
it across the water. San Jaun Island though, at it's closest point to
Vancouver Island, is only 12 kms away. It could also be an actual vagrant
from Asia, or an escapee as well. They are lovely birds regardless!
thanks,
Guy L. Monty
