11:15am start - water level dropping and all mudflats visible (2.4ft low
tide at 12:04)
12:15pm end

Tweeters,
Bright sun at first, but then it clouded over while I was outside along
the east side of Turning Basin #3. Three species of gulls
(GLAUCOUS-WINGED (71), MEW, and CALIFORNIA) were seen, with most of them
along the restoration area on the south and west sides of TB3. (Only one
gillnet was set today, but I saw four guys fishing from various spots
upriver from TB3.)

A PEREGRINE FALCON was on the west power tower at Hamm Creek (9:30am to
noon perched in one spot), and sortied to/from/to the east power tower
just after noon.

It appears that the female BELTED KINGFISHER is definitely taking charge
at TB3: twice chasing a male BEKI from perching posts.

The large domestic goose was back again today.

For those interested: species count at Turning Basin #3 viewpoint stands
at 56 for 2004.

Birds seen during this scan include the following:
Canada Goose (3)
Mallard (14)
Common Merganser (6)
Great Blue Heron
Peregrine Falcon
Mew Gull (6; included one with a bad foot that I spotted a few weeks ago
- still hobbling around)
California Gull (3; a high number)
Glaucous-winged Gull (71)
Rock Pigeon (38)
Belted Kingfisher (2)
American Crow (20; most feeding near the gulls)
Black-capped Chickadee (3)
Bushtit (26; another high number)
American Robin
European Starling (60)
House Finch (2)
American Goldfinch (8; flock feeding on butterfly bush)

May all your birds be identified,
