Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 30. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 503-233-3976.

A surge of rarities in southeast Oregon during the week brought two CANADA
WARBLERS, two BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS, two NORTHERN PARULAS, a
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, a PRAIRIE WARBLER, and a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER. All
disappeared after the week-end.

A gray phased GYRFALCON was on the North Spit of Coos Bay September 26. An
adult MAGNOLIA WARBLER was there September 28. A MAGNOLIA WARBLER was in
Seaside September 23. An apparent BLACK-VENTED SHEARWATER was off Boiler Bay
September 26. The Baskett Slough NWR RUFF continues to be seen,
unfortunately it is not available for viewing as almost all refuges close
October 1, including Baskett Slough.

On Saturday September 25 a major movement of WHITE-FRONTED and CACKLING
GEESE passed over the state. A flock of SNOW GEESE was over Portland
September 28.

A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was near Brookings September 26. Twenty PINK-FOOTED
SHEARWATERS, a BULLER?S SHEARWATER, a SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER, two
LONG-TAILED DUCKS, and a FRANKLIN?S GULL were among the many birds off
Boiler Bay September 27.

On September 25 a SWAMP SPARROW was at the Fernhill Wetlands in forest
Grove. A BLACK PHOBE was at Baskett Slough NWR September 25 and an ARCTIC
TERN was reported from there September 27. A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was in
Covallis September 28. A SABINE?S GULL was at Big Lake in Santiam Pass
September 27. A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR are now at
Fern Ridge Reservoir.

That?s it for this week.
