Many reports have come in about migrating SANDHILL CRANES. Keep your ears
open.

On September 19 and 20, Bob Woodley birded Leslie Groves Park in
Richland. Among expected migrants and water birds, Bob found 3 female
COMMON MERGANSERS, a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, several
WARBLING VIREOS, and a HORNED GREBE.

Jack & Murrel Dawson had 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE at their home along the
Kiona Hills on September 20.

Also on the 20th, Nancy LaFramboise, Chris Johnson and Arla Eckert found a
RED-NECKED GREBE at the Yakima Delta seen from Bateman Island.

On the Yakima Delta the next day (9/21), Nancy LaFramboise found an
immature SABINE'S GULL.

Laurie Ness reported a PRAIRIE FALCON over Highway 240 in Kennewick on
September 21. Although Prairie Falcons are fairly common, it is somewhat
odd to see one at that locale.

Also on the 21st, Margaret Greger found a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH in her
Richland yard. Although these birds are fairly common residents in North
Richland, and can be seen in many places in migration, this fall there have
been large numbers of them. If you haven't found one yet, it is time to go
look.
On September 29, Bob Woodley found an immature SABINE'S GULL and a
BONAPARTE'S GULL at the Yakima Delta in Richland. He also noted that many
typical shorebirds were present. Nancy LaFramboise and Chris Simonen were
able to relocate both gulls today (9/30) as well as 5 species of
raptors: redtail, harrier, Osprey, PEREGRINE FALCON, and an immature
NORTHERN GOSHAWK.

Laurie Ness found the first GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH of the season today
(9/30) on McBee Grade Road in Kiona.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date,
and sightings after the tone. Thank you.
