FeederWatchers on islands near BC and WA asked to watch for
color-banded Song Sparrows
Amy Wilson, a Ph.D. student at the University of British Columbia, is
calling on all FeederWatchers in the southern Gulf Islands of British
Columbia and the San Juan Islands of Washington to be on the lookout
for color-banded Song Sparrows. Song Sparrows have been color-banded
as nestlings on Mandarte Island (east of Sidney Island) and several
other small islands for the past 30 years as part of a movement and
population study. Once nestlings leave the study islands, however,
their fate is unknown. That's where FeederWatchers come in! If you
see a color-banded Song Sparrow, please report your findings to Amy
at song.sparrow at gmail.com. If interested, contact Amy for detailed
information on how to read color bands.
