Turkey vultures are arriving back in force and are already well into
British Columbia with good-sized flocks being seen along the northern
Olympic coast. Following are the reports for March and early April 2005
from Washington, British Columbia, Oregon, and Idaho:

March
02 -- 1 south of Kingston; 1 on Bainbridge Island
03 -- 1 over Wren's Road in Parksville, B.C.
05 -- 3 over Parksville, B.C.
06 -- 1 flying low over fields on Lopez Island; 1 at Colony Farm, B.C.
07 -- 1 at the mouth of the Klickitat River; 1 soaring south of Anacortes
09 -- 1 south of Littlerock
10 -- 1 at Joyce; 1 at North Bend
12 -- 3 northbound over Graymarsh near Sequim; 1 near Silver Star Mountain,
B.C.
13 -- 1 at the Brady Loop Road complex; (?) at Nanoose Bay, B.C.
14 -- 1 headed NNE at Point Wilson, Jefferson County
16 -- OBOL reports turkey vultures "making a conspicuous push"
17 -- 1 at Point Wilson; 1 at the top of Little Mountain in Parksville,
B.C.; other Vancouver Island sightings have been at Nanoose Bay, near the
Wall Beach Road Farm, near Qualicum Beach, and over Cottle Lake near Nanaimo
19 -- ca. 12 in Indian Dan Canyon near Brewster; 1 in South Surrey
22 -- 2 at Pitt Meadows, B.C.; 1 near Eatonville
23 -- 1 hunting the hills in northeast Spokane County
26 -- 2 over WA 112
27 -- 1 south of Seaside, Oregon; many at Malheur NWR, Oregon, including a
roost with 15 birds.
28 -- 9 adults between Bingen and The Dalles, Oregon
29 -- 1 at Surrey, B.C. sitting on a fence post with wings spread doing a
presentation to some crows
30 -- 3 at Wenzel Slough Road; 1 at the Brady Loop Road complex; 3 at the
Schouweiler Road wetlands; 1 soaring over the Turnbull NWR; 2 circling over
Hwy 161
31 -- 1 sure, with 2 probable, at Marymoor Park; 1 with a dead opossum near
Jensen Road

April
01 -- 1 at 224th/Meridian (not sure where)
02 -- 15 sitting in two dead white oak trees in Oakridge, Oregon; 1 over
northern Camano Island; 34 going west from Sequim; 19 more two hours later
near Sequim - all heading west.; 3 at Nisqually; 1 along Madrona Beach Road
at the mouth of Perry Creek; 4 at Keys Road in Grays Harbor County; 3 at
Wenzel Slough; 1 at the Brady Loop complex; 1 over the Kootenay NWR, Idaho
03 -- 1 over the mouth of Lower Deadman Creek (4th or 5th record for
Garfield County); 1 over Kootney Lake at Ainsworth, Idaho.
04 -- 1 snacking on a dead calf near the Brady Loop Road; 1 near Elma; 1
circling over Boeing Field; 2 climbing in a thermal northwest of Metaline Falls
05 -- 1 along SR 19, Jefferson County; 1 along SR 3, Kitsap County
