Took a group of kids out in the business park of Monroe just to make a count
of how many different kinds of birds we could find in this rather
compromised environment. To my astonishment, and great excitement, a great
horned owl was perched on the roof edge of a building. Then to my amazement
a gull, flew close overhead, which I thought was doing a harassment so I
started to give the students a blow by blow account, when the gull landed
right next to the owl. Huh? Wait a minute! It?s a plastic owl! Boy was I
embarrassed. If whomever put the owl up was trying to keep gulls away, it
did not work. But it sure fooled me.

We did get a great look at 3 juvenile bald eagles playing chase, and a
savanna sparrow close up. Plus a couple townsends voles under a board.
